'Playback'

On Sunday 09th August 2009 I was given the album sampler of OLM-Remix 3rd album 'Playback'. Discribed as "thrilling" and "exciting", will it play up to that? After putting the sampler on repeat, I've come up with a final summary of the six tracks on the sampler...

> 'Bleeding Love'
The first mix on the sampler is OLM-Remixes 6th single 'Bleeding Love', the lead single from 'Playback'. We've already heard a rather 'distorted' clip of the Radio Edit on OLM-Remix Official, and we've heard the Video Mix from the official video, but we've had a listen through the whole full mix. It's actually a bit differnt from the Video Mix, it has longer intivals between each chorus and verse. It has a rather gripping opening, fooling you in some places that the chorus is going to kick in, but it dosen't - the mix just carries on building up. As we've described it before, it's big in it's small, minimal kind of way. It has it's similarities to the 'Up!' mix released last year. Overall, I rate this mix 6.5/10

> 'Single Ladies'
This is the first Beyonce mix to come from OLM-Remix. It's darn good as well! The first verse starts rather early on in the mix, but then repeats itself later later on. Has a good use of percussion, including the repetitive bongos. The build up through the first bridge to the chorus is rather good, with sharp synth being used in the chorus. After the seccond verse you're hit with an unexpected breakdown which suprisingly fits well. I'm going to tate this mix at 8/10.

> 'Work'
"You know you gotta, work, work! You know you gotta, work, work!" are the lyrics in one of OLM-Remixes 'favourite' mixes. This mix dosen't have much of a build up, as 'Single Ladies' had. It starts off with a heavy beat with the lyric "Work" being repeated, slowely building up the drums. Over one minute in, and the bass finally kicks in, followed by the main harmony in the shape of a trumpet/brass instrument. Unfortunately (and it has to be said) the chorus's do lack a certain something. They're is an amazing moment in the seccond bridge where the instruments cut out over the lines "So don't go slow", that's a bit to remember! After the final verse, there is a massive build up to the final chorus. Despite the lack of a certain something in the chorus's, i'm giving this mix a 7/10 just for the "So don't go slow" line.

> 'Never Get Over You'
Putting the new artists aside, you've got a big mix coming up.. its Steps! OLM-Remix has cleverly mixed this one, giving it plenty of 'umph' througout, using some of the original elements from the original song, including the 'church' bit. Warning - they're are alot of sirons in this one. The build up is great, and again to the first chorus too. The chorus's are very hi-energy. The original church organ is used in the build up to the final chorus, which is great and really fits well. Overall, this mix deservs a 6.5/10, but is better that 'Bleeding Love'.

> 'Untouchable'
Uh-oh, fasten your seat belt, cos you're about to be taken on a journey to out of space. We put a 2 minute clip of the mix on OR-First a while ago, which has now turned out to be a demo! The mix I'm listening to now has slightly differnt elements to it, and seems more 'full' throughout. There is an excelent use of the vocoder from the start to the intro, "through wind and rain" repeated constatly. One of our favourite elements in this mix is that with the lyric "through wind and rain" belive it or not, there are actually wind and rain sounds, which complement the mix so much. The first chorus is amazing, repeating the intro again afterwoods, which has been given alot of credit. After the seccond verse there is a 'slow' moment, where everything fades down to the bass then comes back up into the chorus, which is a highlight moment. The mix finishes on a clap of rolling thunder, another highlight moment. All in all, I'm giving this mix a well deserved 9/10. Possible seccond single maybe?

> 'If U Seek Amy'
Now where would we be without a bit of Britney? The mix starts with a snyth intro to the melody of the chorus with a whoshing noise in the background. The build up is good, but not as good as the other mixes mentioned above. The first verse is very well done, no beat, just synth in some parts with the beat kicking in the bridge. The chorus's are immence, so full and.. well it's making me wanna dance! The seccond bridge is a bit strange with a weird string section. After the seccond chorus, there is a long interval before the final verse which is great! There are a few great moments where the synth hops from octave to octave. In the chorus's on the line "Begging to if you see Amy" the music cuts out leaving just the vocals, kicking back into the mix - a deffinate highlight moment. Note that this mix has the 'clean' vocals in "if you see amy", not "if you seek amy" which is a shame. Hope this changes before the album is released. This mix does have it's moments, and because of them, this mix gets a 7.5/10.

It hasn't been confirmed yet how many tracks this album will have. But what I can say, is each mix sounds different, they're all unique and different-sounding in each way. The album is set to be released on Monday 14th September for free download from OLM-Remix Official and other official outlets.

'Baby Dont Dance'

Baby Don't Dance is the fith single to come from OLM-Remix. It was taken from the seccond album 'Dust 2 Gold' and was the third single to be taken from it. We were aproached to a preview of this, so you lot reading this know what your getting yourself in to (only joking!).

CD1 (picture above) features the brand new radio edit (also known as the 'video edit' since it was the edit that was first used in the video). In HQ the radio edit sounds better than the filtered YouTube version. The b-side is a 'Dust 2 Gold' medley. The medley is fantastic and it does feature the three singles. Unfortunatly, we cannot reveal the order of the medley. This medley hints that this could be the final single to be taken from 'Dust 2 Gold'. OLM-Remix have chosen to still go ahead with the same logo (with colour alterations), despite new album rumours. The same layout has been used with the 'film strip' of video caps at the bottom of the cover art.

CD2, also known as the Club Mix CD (picture to the left) has four Baby Don't Dance remixes on it. Before i talk about it, i want to draw you're etention to the cover art on the left. It has to be OLM-Remix's best cover art by far. One of them is the album version of the 'OLM's Synth & Techno Mix'. There is also an extended remix of it which is going to be released (we normally only find the extended mixes on the promos). It has a nice intro with the lyrics 'Baby Dont Dance' getting louder and more repetetive as the track kicks into the first verse. There is also a very special 2009 edition of the Sleazesisters remix. OLM-Remix had already made a mix for Baby Dont Dance back in 2007, but felt a 2009 edition would be needed to "keep up with the times". We have a clip of this mix on the homepage. It is worth a listen. Then to finish the CD off, the new and un-heard 'OLM's W.I.P "Baby" Stutter Remix' is available. It is slightly similar to OLM's W.I.P Repetetive mix but the Stutter mix is 10x better.

I hope you enjoyed reading the perview of OLM-Remix's fith single 'Baby Dont Dance', released on 12th January 2009.

'Dust 2 Gold'

After an unsucessful album (The Christmas Collection), a media-oka single (Gimme More) and a really popular single (Can't Speak French), OLM-Remix is back with their second album, Dust 2 Gold (Album sampler CD cover to the right)! It is not a compliation album, but a proper studio album. So far the album contains a total of 12 remixes from a variety of artists such as; Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Steps, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Timberland, Estelle and more.

Even though the album is now compleated, i thought i would give you a taste of what your in for. The first few tracks on the album are catchy remixes. They say save the best to last, in this case its listen to the first tracks immediately. They are all modern and perfect for you to dance to. It starts off with Girls Aloud, Sugababes and then moves onto 'old school' Britney Spears. One of the Britney remixes is one of her singles "Break The Ice (OLM's Artic House Remix)". Half way through the album, Steps are blasting away with two big remixes. Then towards the end of the album, Rihanna pops up. Both tracks have been mixed together well, and are very catchy. Then right at the end of the album you have a Dannii Minogue remix. The remix isn't bad, and it isn't good but it is most definatly likeable.

Unfortunaly on our sampler, one of the Steps remixes was not included due to reasons we cannot know. The whole album has a vibe of "2008" and a new era for OLM-Remix. The whole album it's self has a happy flow all the way through and i dont see why you shouldn't enjoy it. The new album is due out for free download on Monday 03rd November 2008.
